Since 1877 the YMCA has been an important part of Central New Mexico building strong kids, strong families and strong communities. Today, we have five branches and resident camp in Jemez Mountains serving more than 40,000 people everyday. We support our mission through a wide variety of programs and facilities for every age and interest and through the many benefits of membership. Our health and wellness programs help to build healthy spirit, mind and body among all our members.
In central New Mexico, the Y’s activities have grown to influence the lives of thousands – young and old, rich and poor, of all races and every creed. Character development is always a vital component of every YMCA activity. YMCA programs teach young people important values such as caring, honesty, responsibility and respect. Youth sports, “Itty Bitty” sports, day camp, after-school programs and teen activities build self-confidence and teach cooperation and teamwork.
Our aquatics programs attract nearly 2,400 participants annually. Camp Shaver boasts 873 program enrollments. Fully 21,388 youngsters receive child care at the Y. Nearly 2,500 adults participate in our Healthy Lifestyles program. Seniors represent 400 additional program participants. The YMCA’s Teen Leadership program attracts 5,800 teens annually and 6,151 kids participate in Youth Sports.
At the YMCA no one is denied a chance to participate based on the inability to pay. Our annual Invest in Youth Campaign will raise over $260,000 this year to fund our financial assistance program. The YMCA is a well-run organization with a solid reputation for fiscal responsibility. In each of the last twelve years, the YMCA has had balanced budgets and administrative expenses account for only 12% of our budget.
In short, the YMCA of Central New Mexico serves many people in many ways.
For fitness, friendship, and fun – the YMCA is the place to be!
